Learn About Ford F-150 Towing

trailer safety requirements

Prepare To Tow

Towing a trailer requires coordination of three components: the driver, the vehicle, and the trailer. Once synchronized through practice and patience, you ultimately become a towing expert! The professionals at Pittsville Ford have provided trailer safety requirements and ideal combinations. Our dealership has various tow-ready vehicles outfitted to take on your adventures. Review our trailer safety requirements, and contact our staff if questions arise along the way.

Get Hitched

The first line of defense in towing is properly hitching the trailer to the truck. To ensure a secure connection, determine the appropriate hitch system by checking your trailer’s owner’s manual or contacting our team. Then make sure the chain is correctly fastened.

Balance Weight

Trailer safety requirements include evenly distributing the freight and cargo. You will want to balance the weight equally both front-to-rear and side-to-side to have more control over steering to keep your goods affixed. Remember not to skip this step or it could cause your trailer to sway or induce stress, resulting in damage or loss of cargo.

Get A Tune-Up

Staying current with routine vehicle and trailer maintenance is crucial for towing safely. One of the most safest ways to tow a trailer is by consistently checking its operation. Be sure to inspect for optimized steering, accelerating, and braking.

Verify Compliance

Consumers, dealers, and manufacturers must complete the Compliance Verification Program through the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (NATM) to meet trailer towing safety standards. This required NATM membership guarantee includes successfully participating and completing the program and emphasizes industry best practices.

Ideal Combinations

Your vehicle’s tow rating depends on its configurations. For instance, when you equip the new Ford F-150 with the newly engineered hybrid V6 engine, you can achieve at least 12,000 lbs. of max towing capacity. If you require more seating, the Ford Expedition has a best-in-class tow rating of 9,300 lbs. when outfitted with the Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package. Depending on your trailer’s size and load, you may require the massive strength of a Ford Super Duty®.

Veterans Day, once Armistice Day, was founded on November 11, 1919, marking one year after the end of WWI. Armistice signifies a truce or agreement made by opposing sides in a war to end fighting, and this day officially became a federal holiday in 1938. It was later amended by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954 to include all veterans.

“1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. There is currently no known cure for breast cancer, and its early diagnosis is critical to survival.” — The National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.

Outsmart Old Man Winter

Before you know it, there will be freezing cold evenings and frost on the ground. Making sure your car is ready for the brutal winter weather is especially important, so the service team at Pittsville Ford has jotted down our top five Ford winter maintenance tips. Following these five winterization steps will significantly increase your vehicle’s lifespan and can reduce potential costly repairs in the future. View our Ford winter maintenance tips and add a service plan to your “to do” list, or schedule an appointment today!

Examine Your Tires

Bald tires are hazardous when the roads are icy, so check for uneven tread, cuts, etc. Consider getting snow tires for exceptional grip. If your tire pressure is off, it may decrease your fuel economy and overall handling. Now is also the time to be sure you have a jack and a properly inflated spare tire in case of a flat.

Observe Your Brakes

Brake pads also require routine inspection and should be changed depending on how and where you drive. You can increase your brakes’ longevity by coasting to slow down instead of slamming the pedal and also by having your brake fluid checked regularly. Listen for noises like vibrating or shuddering from the pedal and look for lights that may appear. If you notice anything unusual, let our certified Ford technicians know.

Test Your Heating Unit

Ensuring a pleasant driving experience this winter means making sure the interior temperature is right. Signs that your heating unit needs help include a strange smell coming from the vent, antifreeze leaking in the passenger floor, and of course, notice if you are shivering even when the heat is on. Book your Ford winter maintenance appointment to avoid cold commutes.

Prioritize Oil Changes

As always, we suggest having your oil changed frequently. Check your owner’s manual for specifics, but the general recommendation is every three months or 3,000 miles. Oil lubricates many moving parts of your vehicle, and over time turns into a thick sludge that can lead to engine wear. Prepare your engine properly for the harsh winter by replenishing your oil today!

Check Fluid Levels

In addition to the engine oil and brake fluid, it is also crucial to refresh your coolant, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and the hoses they travel through. You will want to ensure there are no leaks as you winterize your vehicle.

Our Ford winter maintenance protocol ensures that your vehicle is ready for winter, so contact us today or schedule a service appointment!

2021 Ford Bronco legacy

Through The Bronco Generations

The 2021 Ford Bronco legacy began in the late 1940s when returning war heroes were driving their Army Jeeps on the farms through trout streams, ranches, and other off-road trails. It was clear to Ford product manager Donald Frey and lead designer Lee Iacocca that customers were looking for a fun and dependable vehicle for exploring the wild. Their vision came to life in 1965 when the 1966 Bronco model was introduced to the Ford lineup featuring an all-purpose Bronco Roadster, a Bronco Sport Utility half cab, and a Bronco Wagon body style. Workhorses and thrill-seekers embodied the Bronco spirit, with its first-generation lasting for over a decade. Generation 2 (1978-1979) grew to a more robust body style, standout interior options, and striking packages to heighten life on the trail. However, only a year later, Generation 3 (1980-1986), a lighter fuel economy footprint, was released due to the global increase in gasoline prices. There were a variety of configurations and game-changing specifications for a smoother experience. Known as the Ford Bronco “Aerodynamic Age,” Generation 4 (1987-1991) unveiled enhanced powertrain and anti-lock braking technology for another thrilling chapter. The last passage of the first Ford Bronco saga offered a host of stylish updates for a rugged yet refined Generation 5 (1992-1996). This era featured premium sound, power windows, power doors, and some of the most stunning design highlights of its 30-year run.
