Through The Bronco Generations
The 2021 Ford Bronco legacy began in the late 1940s when returning war heroes were driving their Army Jeeps on the farms through trout streams, ranches, and other off-road trails. It was clear to Ford product manager Donald Frey and lead designer Lee Iacocca that customers were looking for a fun and dependable vehicle for exploring the wild. Their vision came to life in 1965 when the 1966 Bronco model was introduced to the Ford lineup featuring an all-purpose Bronco Roadster, a Bronco Sport Utility half cab, and a Bronco Wagon body style. Workhorses and thrill-seekers embodied the Bronco spirit, with its first-generation lasting for over a decade. Generation 2 (1978-1979) grew to a more robust body style, standout interior options, and striking packages to heighten life on the trail. However, only a year later, Generation 3 (1980-1986), a lighter fuel economy footprint, was released due to the global increase in gasoline prices. There were a variety of configurations and game-changing specifications for a smoother experience. Known as the Ford Bronco “Aerodynamic Age,” Generation 4 (1987-1991) unveiled enhanced powertrain and anti-lock braking technology for another thrilling chapter. The last passage of the first Ford Bronco saga offered a host of stylish updates for a rugged yet refined Generation 5 (1992-1996). This era featured premium sound, power windows, power doors, and some of the most stunning design highlights of its 30-year run.
